Romance,
adventure, and tragedy provide the backdrop for the Performing Arts
at Oakton production of "Cyrano de Bergerac," March 24 - April
4 at the Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road.
"Cyrano
de Bergerac" tells the tale of the soulful poet/philosopher and expert
duelist who falls in love with the fair Roxanne, but is ashamed to
court her because of the size of his nose. Directed by John Frisco,
this classic work by Edmond Rostand shows that little has changed
over the past three centuries when it comes to man's romantic, often
foolish, impulses.
In connection
with the performance, Oakton will sponsor a free preview lecture entitled,
"Heroic Comedy or Romantic Tragedy?" on Wednesday, March 24, at 1
p.m. Karol Verson, a member of Oakton's theater faculty, will discuss
the theatrical style of the 17th century, and how comedian Steve Martin
captured the essence of Rostand's play in the1987 movie, "Roxanne."
The lecture will be held in the Des Plaines campus theater lobby.
Free parking in Lot A.
