Margaret B. "Peg" Lee, president of Oakton Community College, will
be honored by Sister Cities International on Saturday, July 15, in
Washington D.C., for her work to strengthen partnerships between the
U.S. and international communities.
Lee
will be inducted into the 50th Anniversary Local Government Leadership
Circle during the Sister Cities International conference. The ceremony
takes place at the prestigious Warner Theatre, where singer and songwriter
John McCutcheon will perform.
Lee
is being honored for her support of both the Sister Cities Association
of Des Plaines and Sister Cities International. Since 1985, Lee and
Oakton have played a vital leadership role in strengthening local
citizen diplomacy by volunteering to host international groups and
organizations, and making College resources available for Sister Cities
activities.
Celebrating
its 50th anniversary this summer, Sister Cities International, a nonprofit,
citizen diplomacy network, promotes sustainable development, youth
involvement, cultural understanding, and humanitarian aid in more
than 2,500 communities and 134 countries.
