Intermediate ESL students who have trouble reading English are invited to enroll in free spring reading classes offered through Oakton Community College's Alliance for Lifelong Learning. Classes are funded by the Illinois Community College Board, the Office of the Secretary of State, and the Illinois State Library.

The purpose of these free classes is to develop reading and writing skills for personal or employment purposes. Students may discuss their individual goals and needs with a counselor during registration. Free reading classes start the week of Jan. 9, 2006, and meet at various times and locations throughout the district.

Registration for daytime classes will be held:
Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006
9:15 - 11:30 a.m., Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St., Des Plaines.
9:20 - 11:30 a.m. (morning session); 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. (afternoon session), Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
12 - 2:30 p.m., Golf Mill Shopping Center, Entrance 1, Golf Road at Milwaukee Ave., Niles.
12:15 - 2:45 p.m., Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane, Northbrook.
Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006
9:15 - 11:30 a.m., Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton St., Skokie.
12 - 2:15 p.m., North Suburban YMCA, 2705 Techny Road, Northbrook.

Registration for evening classes will be held:

6:30 - 8:15 p.m., Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane, Northbrook.
7 - 9 p.m., Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

6:45 - 9 p.m., Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St., Des Plaines.
