Designed
for those interested in the design and implementation of radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology, Oakton Community College announces
the availability of two new certificate programs starting this fall.
Pending
approval by the Illinois Community College Board, the new certificates,
Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFIDT)
and Transportation, Warehousing, and Logistics Management
(TWL), both focus on the use of RFID for tracking and data collection
through the supply chain, as well as in a variety of other applications.
Certificate recipients will be able to develop an RFID deployment
plan based on understanding how the technology can effectively be
used in their industry.
Courses
for both programs begin in late September at the Des Plaines campus,
1600 E. Golf Road, and the Art, Science, and Technology Pavilion,
at the Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. Courses include: Introduction
to RFID (RFD 101); Introduction to Computer Information Systems (CIS
101); Networking Essentials (CNS 105); Database Applications for PCs
(CAB 140); Purchasing Management (MGT 130); Operations and Supply
Chain Management (MGT 155); and Quality Systems Leadership (MGT 223).
RFID
uses radio waves to transmit unique data about products moving through
the supply chain. The technology is used by Wal-Mart and other large
retailers. Oakton is home to the only U.S. community college lab designed
to teach RFID principles.
