An exhibition
of Des Plaines River photos by 42 Chicago-area photographers will
be on display July 8 - August 26 at Oakton Community College's Koehnline
Gallery, 1600 E. Golf Road. The public is invited to attend a
free reception with refreshments on Thursday, July 8, 5 - 8 p.m.
"Along
the Des Plaines River" consists of 65 works of traditional film and
digital photography by photographers from Des Plaines, Park Ridge,
Prospect Heights, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glenview, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire,
Grayslake, Norridge, and Chicago. Photos feature the river - once
traveled by Native Americans, explorers, and fur traders - in different
seasons, along with its wildlife, plants, and architectural structures.
"One
section of the exhibition displays photos and artifacts of machinery
parts, tools, vessels, and other objects dating back to the early
20th century," says Nathan Harpaz, Oakton's curator. Harpaz said the
objects were found by students of Oakton's Kids' College, during an
archeological dig on the banks of the Des Plaines River.
The exhibit
will be on view during summer Gallery hours: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday
through Thursday. The College is closed on Fridays through August
13.
