Rep. Jan
Schakowsky (D-IL) will discuss a wide range of topics, from education
funding to the Patriot Act, Tuesday, April 13, at 11 a.m., during
a visit with students and community members at Oakton Community College,
1600 E. Golf Road. The public is encouraged to attend this free event.
Parking is available in Lots A and D.
During the
first part of her talk, Rep. Schakowsky will discuss the importance of
voter participation in the upcoming November election, and topics such
as work force development, shrinking financial aid for students, and the
future of higher education in America. She will respond to audience questions
during the remainder of her hour-long appearance, which will be broadcast
live on Oakton's cable channel, and repeated in the coming months.
Rep. Schakowsky's
visit stems from her recent meeting in Washington, D.C., with members
of the Oakton Board of Trustees. Lina Hoffman, student trustee, invited
Schakowsky to the College on behalf of the Board of Student Affairs.
The program
is open to Oakton faculty, staff, and students, as well as community residents.
Rep. Schakowsky's district includes Des Plaines, Evanston, Niles, Park
Ridge, Skokie, and Wilmette. Voter registration forms and certified registrars
will be available for those with questions or who wish to vote in November.
