OAKTON COURSES OFFER UNIQUE LOOK AT THE SILVER SCREEN


Oakton Community College's Emeritus Program offers three new classes that delve into the realm of international and American films. The seminars meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Friday Afternoon at the Movies examines contemporary films and provides a venue for the discussion of their merits and entertainment. Session I (HUM E74-71, Touch-Tone 06324) meets from 1 -3 p.m. on six Fridays, beginning Feb. 15. The course fee is $75. Session II (HUM E74-72, Touch-Tone 06323) meets from 1 -3 p.m. on four Fridays, beginning April 12. The fee for this course is $55.

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down: The Art of Reviewing, from Aristotle to Ebert (ENG E08-71, Touch-Tone 07956) helps sharpen analytical skills by viewing and discussing dramas. Compare your observations with that of professional reviewers. This class meets from 1 - 3:30 p.m. on four Wednesdays, beginning April 17. The course fee is $50.

Focus on Foreign Filmmakers: Ken Loach (HUM E85-71, Touch-Tone 07938) examines the 30-year career of one of Britain's most popular directors. Loach's films have been praised for their accurate depictions of the working class life in his native country. This seminar meets from 2 - 5 p.m. on eight Mondays, beginning April 1. The course fee is $90.
