The Skyway
Conference has honored nine Oakton Community College students as Academic
Athlete of the Year. To earn the award, students must have completed
48 credit hours with a 3.00 GPA or higher over their college career.
Four
women from the Oakton women's soccer team were named Academic Athletes
of the Year: sophomore Cheryl Rieger (Maine South), sophomore Cassy
Riemer (Lincoln Park), sophomore Nicole Waldron (Glenbrook North),
and sophomore Tanya Wright (Evanston High).
Also
earning Skyway Conference Academic Athlete of the Year honors were
sophomore volleyball player Katherine Shanahan (Maine West), sophomore
tennis player Mona Tousi (Glenbrook South), sophomore women's basketball
player Ainara Zabala (Antoniano), sophomore men's soccer player Nathan
Riemer (Von Steuben), and sophomore men's basketball player Kevin
Vail (Maine West).
The Skyway
Conference consists of eight member colleges competing for athletic
championships in a dozen sports. College of Lake County, Elgin Community
College, McHenry Community College, Moraine Valley Community College,
Morton College, Prairie State College, and Waubonsee Community College
also are members of the conference.
