Explore the Many Treasures of Spain on Oakton Tour

Explore Spain's rich past and modern culture on a tour offered by the Oakton Community College travel/study program. Three trips are scheduled for 2003: April 25 - May 8, June 6 - 19, and Oct. 3 - 16.

Enjoy a walking tour of Madrid to visit the Royal Palace built by the Bourbon King Philip V; then journey to Toledo, a major center of learning during the sixth century. In Seville, view paintings by Goya, El Greco, and Velazquez at the world's largest art museum, the Prado.

In Jerez, learn about the art of producing wine at a sherry bodega, followed by a special show at the famous Royal Andalusian Riding School. Participants will have the opportunity to visit local businesses in Rute, including an olive oil producing plant and the Museo del Anis, where they will learn about the making of Anisette, a regional liquor. Other stops on the trip include Granada, Cordoba, Malaga, Barcelona, and Montserrat.

Throughout the trip, participants will sample native dishes at specially arranged meals and learn about the everyday lives and customs of the local people. For more information, including complete itineraries and prices, call Bea Cornelissen at 847-635-1812.
