SIX PIANO ENSEMBLE ANNOUNCES SPRING CONCERTS

Oakton Community College’s acclaimed Six Piano Ensemble performs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in the Performing Arts Center of the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The program includes selections from classical, ragtime and popular pieces, including Brahm’s Hungarian Dance no. 2, Beethoven’s Symphony no. 1, Scott Joplin’s "Pine Apple Rag," Irving Berlin’s "Alexander’s Ragtime Band" and Fauré’s Dolly Suite. A reception with light refreshments follows each performance.

The Six Piano Ensemble is the creation of Glenna Sprague, a Skokie resident and professor of music at Oakton, who arranges the music so that each member plays a different part. As she conducts from the podium, the Ensemble becomes an "orchestra" with the melody flowing from pianist to pianist. The talented musicians are Adrienne Alton-Gust of Northbrook, Kathy Godziszewski of Park Ridge, Judy Ksiazek of Glenview, Beatriz Levi of Skokie, Elsie McAvoy of Evanston and Garfield Sallman of Des Plaines.

For more than 20 years, the Ensemble has performed to sold-out audiences at Oakton and throughout the United States and Europe, including the Civic Opera House and Navy Pier in Chicago, and the International Conference of the College Music Society in Vienna, Austria. In June, the Ensemble will be featured artists at the Goshen College Piano Workshop, where world-renowned musicians, piano students and teachers will gather for a week of intense music study.

Tickets at $12 each may be purchased in advance or at the door. For more information, call the Oakton Box Office at (847) 635-1900. For group discount sales, call Karol Verson at (847) 635-2185.
