Stimulus Funds Impact Oakton and workNet Center

Unemployed individuals seeking job training education are invited to explore their eligibility for federal stimulus funds by attending orientation sessions hosted by Oakton Community College and the Illinois workNet Center, College officials said.

“The response in January to our original ‘Reboot’ program was so immediate and positive that we are happy to take this next step in providing training for those who receive money provided by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA),” said Margaret B. Lee, president. “Better yet, these funds may be applied toward more than 60 Oakton programs, which greatly expands the options for those who are unemployed.”

Oakton associate degrees and certificates eligible for WIA and ARRA funds through the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County include Aseptic Pharmaceutical Preparations; Basic Early Childhood Education; CNC Operations and Programming; Medical Billing; Microsoft Office Specialist; Pharmacy Technician; and Transportation, Warehousing, and Logistics Management, among others. All eligible programs are listed at www.oakton.edu/acad/wia. Select any title for detailed information including the courses that comprise the certificate or associate degree, itemized costs, and other program specifics. Enrollment is limited.

Persons who are eligible for WIA and ARRA retraining money will receive an Individual Training Account (ITA). This ITA may be used at Oakton and other approved institutions.

To learn more about eligibility, interested individuals must attend an orientation at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus or Illinois workNet Center locations in Evanston or Arlington Heights. To register for an orientation, call 847-864-3530, ext. 243 (Oakton and Illinois workNet Center, Evanston) or 847-981-7400 (Illinois workNet Center, Arlington Heights only).
