Two
Oakton Community College students, Danielle Chiero of Chicago, and
Alison Howard of Mt. Prospect, have been named to the 2005 Phi Theta
Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team, a division of the All-USA Team for
community colleges.
Howard,
a 21-year-old psychology student, also was named to the All-USA Community
and Junior College Second Team. The First Team is comprised of the
top 20 two-year college students in the nation; the Second Team recognizes
students ranked 21 through 40.
Howard
and Chiero both were honored April 5 at a ceremony in Springfield.
Academic
team members are recognized for scholastic achievement, leadership,
and volunteer work. Chiero earned a 3.78 GPA, while Howard posted
a 3.71 GPA. Both will receive degrees at Oakton's May 16 commencement
ceremony. Chiero plans to pursue an academic career in anthropology,
while Howard hopes to work as a child and family psychologist.
"We
are very proud of both women and delighted that Alison has earned
this prestigious national honor for her academic success and exceptional
leadership," said Ann Marie Barry, Oakton's director of student activities.
