Oakton Hosts Stimulus Summit May 27
Area business leaders are invited to attend a free breakfast roundtable on the deployment of federal stimulus funds at 8 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, at Oakton Community College’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The discussion is sponsored by Oakton and the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County.
The Stimulus Summit will address the use of money being made available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Topics include workforce development and how businesses can benefit from funding. Local businesses are invited to share their insights on industry trends and employment opportunities.
In April 2009, the Workforce Board received $5.7 million as part of the ARRA, which was signed into law by President Obama. The money was intended to create workforce programs and stimulate local economies.
