Melissa Thodos & Dancers, Chicago's hottest contemporary dance company, brings its powerful blend of art and athleticism to the Oakton Community College's Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The performance is the first in a series of exciting programs at Oakton's newly renovated and expanded Performing Arts Center.Under the artistic direction of founder and choreographer Melissa Thodos, the ensemble's award-winning style of dance combines elements of gymnastics and classical and modern dance. Many of the compositions incorporate props such as balls, hoops, boxes, and chairs, adding another creative dimension. The company has performed to critical acclaim nationally and abroad, most recently at the Second International Dance Festival in Istanbul. The talented ensemble also performs regularly in some of Chicago's most prestigious dance events, including "Dance Chicago," "Dance for Life," and "The Ruth Page Dance Series."
Tickets at $18 for general admission, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for group and Partner in Performance (PIP) members may be purchased by calling the Oakton Box Office at (847) 635-1900. The purchase of one full-price ticket to any of the eight programs in the fall 2002 performance schedule earns a free PIP membership to Oakton's Performing Arts Center and reduced ticket prices to other shows. Other shows in the fall 2002 season at Oakton's Performing Arts Center include Late Night Catechism, one of the longest running comedies in Chicago theater history (Sept. 28); Never the Sinner, a courtroom drama about the infamous Leopold and Loeb case (Oct. 11-13 and 18 -20); Mileva Einstein, the North American premiere of a play by renowned Eastern European playwright Vida Ognjenovic (Nov. 8-10 and 15-17); Waiting for Godot, Samuel Beckett's minimalist drama (Nov. 19 -24); and Resident Alien, an intergalactic comedy (Dec. 6 -8 and 13 -15).
