Discover
the life and culture of Ecuador through a travel/study program sponsored
by Oakton Community College. Excursions in 2005 are scheduled for
Jan. 9-22, March 13-26, July 17-30, and Oct. 2-15.
Begin
in the 450-year-old capital city of Quito and experience Jacchiqua,
the Ecuadorian folklore ballet. Next, visit Oswaldo Guayasamin's gallery
of contemporary paintings. Take a day trip to Calderon, home of native
"bread dolls," and hike through Cuicocha, to view a lake inside the
noted volcano. Enjoy a seven-day Galapagos Islands cruise that allows
travelers to view the diverse wildlife and participate in hiking,
snorkeling, and educational lectures. Stops include the Charles Darwin
Research Station and Pinnacle Rock, the most recognized Galapagos
landmark.
This
trip requires much physical activity and is recommended for travelers
in good health. An optional weeklong extension to Peru's Machu Picchu
is offered at an additional cost.
