Develop your creative side by exploring the colorful world of the visual arts with courses offered by Oakton Community College's Emeritus program. All classes meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Avenue, Skokie.History of Collections and Museums (ART C46-61, Touch-Tone 04732), taught by Oakton's Koehnline Gallery curator, Nathan Harpaz, is a new course that explores the development of collections and museums from ancient to modern times. The three-week class meets Mondays from 2:30 to 4 p.m., beginning Oct. 7. The course fee is $40.
Another new class, Early Italian Renaissance Art (ART C45-61, Touch-Tone 04731), taught by world traveler and professional lecturer Claire Copping Cross, studies early Renaissance masterpieces of art and architecture created by great talents such as Giotto, Claus Suter, Massaccio, Fra Angelico, Fra Filippo Lippi, and Botticelli.Various slide shows also provide "visual tours" of Italy, including Rome, Florence, and Venice.The six-week class meets Wednesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and begins on Sept. 25.The course fee is $70.
Other courses offered by Emeritus this fall include Studio I (ART B15), Studio II (ART B16) and Techniques in Drawing (ART B93).
Students age 60 and above who reside within Oakton's district pay half-tuition for Emeritus noncredit classes.
Students who have registered for Oakton or ALL classes within the last five years and have a Social Security number on file may register by using the Touch-Tone system at (847) 635-1616 or by fax at (847) 635-1448. Touch-Tone registration require payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
