The American Volleyball Coaches Association has recognized
Oakton Community College’s volleyball team for its recent academic
success. The 2007-08 AVCA Team Academic Award honors
squads that have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball
with excellence in the classroom. To be eligible for the national
award, teams must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of
3.30 during the academic year.
Coached by Denise Hollis, the Raiders finished 28-16 last season.
Oakton’s 2007 volleyball squad was comprised of: Chellore
Carteciano (Niles North) of Skokie; Adriana Ivanova
(Elmwood Park) of Elmwood Park; Monica Johnson (Maine
South) of Park Ridge; Eleri Rodi (Koidula Gymnasium
School, Estonia) of Buffalo Grove; Kristin Santiago
(Niles North) of Skokie; Allison Sims (Morgan Park
Academy) of Chicago; April Smith (Morgan Park) of
Columbus, Ohio; and Anna Weissman (Christian Liberty
Academy) of Glenview.
