now for ESL or food service sanitation courses offered by Oakton Community
College, in partnership with the Center for Professional Development,
a "one-stop" placement center for potential employees and employers
located at Westfield Old Orchard, 34 Old Orchard Center, Suite E34,
Skokie. Courses begin June 6.
Food
Service Sanitation Supervision (BUS A50-031) prepares students
for the certification examination required by the Illinois Department
of Public Health. Seven-week course meets 7 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays,
starting June 6. Course fee is $187.
Food
Safety Refresher Course (BUS R99-031) satisfies the Illinois
Department of Public Health requirement for five hours of continuing
food safety education to renew the state sanitation certificate. Course
meets 3:30 - 9:30 p.m., Monday, June 25. Course fee is $80.
English as a Second Language for Adults is designed
to sharpen listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for intermediate-level
students whose native language is not English. Registration is 2 -
4 p.m., Wednesday, June 13. Seven-week course meets 2 - 4 p.m., Mondays
and Wednesdays, starting June 18. Registration is required for this
free course.
Bridges
to Academic Reading allows intermediate ESL students to improve
reading and writing skills to pursue college credit courses. Registration
is 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Saturday, June 16. Nine-week course meets
Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., starting June 23. Registration is
required for this free course.
The
Center for Professional Development is a partnership of Oakton Community
College, the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County, workNet Northern
Cook County, the National Retail Federation, and Westfield Old Orchard.
The center officially opens Thursday, April 26.
