Students
can earn college credit in just 11 days during Winterim
at Oakton Community College, Dec. 17, 2007 - Jan. 4, 2008. All courses
meet at Oakton's campus in Skokie, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. General education
and career courses covering computer information systems, computer
appl
ications
for business, mathematics, political science, geography, speech, poetry,
psychology, sociology, and anthropology are available. Three online
history courses also are offered.
Classes
meet for 11 sessions, 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Dec. 17 - Dec. 21, Dec.
26 - 28, and Jan. 2 - Jan. 4. Oakton's campus will be open 8:45 a.m.
- 2:45 p.m. on those days, with staff providing student services such
as library and computer labs and tutoring support.
"In
addition to providing convenience for Oakton students, Winterim allows
students home on break to fulfill a general education requirement
at a fraction of what it might cost at their own school," said Thomas
Hamel, vice president of academic affairs. "We expect many students
will value this unique opportunity to receive college credit in only
11 sessions."
Registration
begins Nov. 13 and ends on the first day of Winterim, Dec. 17. In-person
registration at either campus is Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.
- 7 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
