Celebrate
the diversity and commitment of Americans in their everyday occupations
during the Performing Arts at Oakton's production of "Working (the
musical)" April 22 - May 8 at Studio One, 1600 E. Golf Road.
"Working
(the musical)" captures the essence of Studs Terkel's 1972 oral history
featuring stories of the working class. Written by Stephen Schwartz
and directed by Frank Del Giudice, the play features songs by James
Taylor, Craig Carnelia, and Mary Rodgers.
In conjunction
with the performance, Oakton will sponsor "Celebrating Ordinary People
in Song," a free preview lecture on Wednesday, April 14 at 1 p.m.,
in the theater lobby at the Des Plaines campus. Dan Detloff, a member
of Oakton's music and arts faculty, will discuss the special qualities
of musical theater as exemplified by "Working (the musical)."
A $5
preview of "Working (the musical)" will be staged Thursday, April
22 at 8 p.m. Regular performances are Fridays, April 23, 30, and May
7 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, April 24, May 1 and 8 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays,
