Emeritus Program Explores World of Cinema

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers four seminars for movie buffs and those who want to delve deeper into the nuances of Tinsel Town.

Russian Cinematic Landscape: Escaping the Past and Forging the Future (HUM S52-61, Touch-Tone 05098) explores the evolution of Russian cinema following World War II. Films to be discussed and reviewed include Nikita Mikhalkov's Burnt by the Sun and Andre Tarkowsky's The Sacrifice.
9:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., six Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 16
Course fee: $110

Special Film Series: The Decalogue (HUM E84-61, Touch-Tone 05213) discusses Krzysztof Kieslowski's extraordinary series based on the Ten Commandments. Two one-hour films will be screened and discussed in each session.
12-3:15 p.m., five Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 24
Course fee: $100

Alchemy: Famous Film Couples (HUM E83-61, Touch-Tone 05100) examines the electrically charged chemistry between six famous on-screen couples. Films to be screened include Adam's Rib, Déjà vu and Mr. and Mrs. Bridge.
1-4 p.m., six Mondays, beginning Oct. 8
Course fee: $70

Movies: The Frescoes of Our Time (HUM E75-61, Touch-Tone 02534) examines the cultures and societies of such countries as Sweden, France and Japan through the eyes of its filmmakers.
2-5 p.m., on eight Mondays, beginning Oct. 8
Course fee: $90
