Raiders Land Talented Prospect
Oakton’s baseball squad continues to secure top area prospects. Derek DeYoung, a right-handed pitcher and smooth hitting infielder from Plainfield Central High School, has committed to Oakton.
Prep Baseball Report touts DeYoung as a top high school prospect in Illinois who sports a fastball that averages 86 miles per hour. He also owns a curve and a change-up. As a junior last season at Plainfield, DeYoung was named team MVP and was named to the Illinois High School Baseball Association’s all-region team. On the mound during the 2009 season, he compiled a 5-3 record and tossed a no-hitter against Morris Community High School. Offensively, he belted 11 home runs, knocked in 47 RBI, and compiled a .474 batting average. DeYoung also scored 37 runs and composed a .928 slugging percentage.
“This is great news for our program,” said Oakton head coach Bill Fratto. “Derek was recruited by several Division I schools and he chose to come play at Oakton. That says a lot.”
