Oakton College Bowl Team Takes Second in Tournament

Derek Newhouse of Skokie was named MVP of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference College Bowl Tournament held Friday, Oct. 23, at Waubonsee Community College.

Newhouse, the tournament’s high scorer, led Oakton to a second-place finish at the competition. Oakton’s only loss came at the hands of winner Morton College. Oakton scored the most points overall, but the tournament is decided by the total number of wins.
Team members include Frederick Rhine of Park Ridge and Michael Thariath of Niles. The coach is John Stryker, assistant professor of computer technologies and information systems.

College Bowl is a fast-paced competition between teams of students. Participants answer questions about current events, history, math, geography, sports, and literature.
