Cowhey Off to Division I

Sophomore Ryan Cowhey, an all-conference outfielder, has verbally committed to Western Illinois University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I program.

According to Raiders head baseball coach Bill Fratto, Western Illinois was just one of many colleges interested in obtaining the services of Cowhey, a graduate of Carl Sandburg High School who led Oakton with a .388 batting average and a .600 slugging percentage in 2009.

“Ryan is one of the hardest working players on the field and in the classroom,” said Fratto. “I am very proud of him and I know he will do well at Western Illinois. This just shows that Oakton has become one of the top junior college baseball programs that Division I colleges look to when recruiting players.”
