What is Needed An Online with Oakton
course is like any other Oakton credit course in that you will have to
go through the admission and registration process
and meet any applicable prerequisites. You can
both apply for admission and register for classes online. 2 days
are required to process the admission application prior to registering.
Where online courses differ from on campus courses is in the delivery
process. Most of the class work for an online course is done via the Web.
Because of this, there are certain technical and learner issues that are
very important to consider before beginning your online course.
In the technical area, you need to identify where you'll be doing your online work. Your computer and Internet connection must meet minimum specifications. Some courses will require higher specs, which will be noted in the description for each course. Just as important are the learner aspects. Like any other distance learning class, taking an online course requires a good deal of personal discipline, among other things. Be sure to read through Being an Online Learner before deciding whether an online course is right for you. Information on how each online course is conducted can be found on the Courses Offered page. On that page you can click on the individual course ID to display additional course information. The majority of Online with Oakton courses use WebCT for course management and are accessed from Oakton's homepage. The instructor will provide information for courses hosted on other platforms.
