Orientation for Online Courses

At the beginning of each semester, some instructors at Oakton choose to offer an in-person orientation for their online students. While students are strongly encouraged to attend such an orientation in person, if offered, you are invited to review the streaming video presentations below, which provide an overview of the many support services available to Oakton's online students.

You will need a recent version of the RealPlayer browser plugin to view the presentations.

Soda Parker, Faculty Coordinator for Online Courses, welcomes you and talks about what is needed to be an Online student.

Gloria Liu, Learning Specialist, discusses what Instructional Support Services provides to help Online students, including tutoring, special needs assistance, and testing.

Laurie Gunning, Special Advisor for Student Affairs, talks about Oakton's Student Services department which provides academic advising and helps with "whatever is confusing you here at Oakton." Laurie also talks about career counseling.
