Civil War: Journey to Pan’s Labyrinth
9 - 9:30 a.m.
The Spanish Civil War took place between 1936 and 1939 and serves as the
historical context for the film Pan’s Labyrinth. More than
500,000 people died in this political and ideological struggle, a virtual
prelude to the confrontation between fascist and liberal forces that spread
out across Europe during World War II. Join Guiller Bosqued, assistant
professor of Spanish, to consider the causes of the conflict, its parallels
with World War II, and the effects of Franco’s dictatorship on modern
Spain. [Room 1608]
