Coins and Herring: Intercultural Criminals in Medieval England
11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Explore the relationship between medieval English Christians and Jews
in business relationships, as well as in the pursuit of “illegal
gain.” Evidence may be found in legal records, specifically in the
records of coin-clipping offenses, allegations of complicity between Jews
and Christians to falsify records in the archa (communal archives),
and the pawning of stolen goods. Join Frances Mitilineos, instructor of
history, for a presentation that shows both complicity and antipathy between
medieval English Christians and Jews in activities that took place outside
the law. [Room P103]

regions of the East. Learn what makes these musical traditions distinct
and what makes them part of a universal human expression. Separate
