To use the Interlibrary Loan service at Oakton, you must be an Oaktonstudent or employee. If you fall into neither of these categories, you can request interlibrary loan service from your local public library.
Three ways to borrow a book from another library:
- You may go in person to any one of the cooperating ILCSO libraries in Illinois andborrow a book directly. These libraries are listedon the ILCSO Web site. You must have an Oakton Library card with a current validation sticker and barcode.
- You may ask the Interlibrary Loan staff person to borrow a book for youfrom another library. Ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk. Bring a database
printout with you, if available.
- You can borrow a book on the computer from another library using ILLINETOnline. The easiest way to do this is to ask the Reference Librarianfor assistance. If you are unable to do that, follow the guidelines below:
- Start your search in Oakton’s library database..
- You may search all 45 libraries in the system by changing the "By location" box on the
ILLINET Online screen.
- When you find a book you want, click "ILLINET Online" to bring up the full record.
- When the full record is on the screen, click "Request first available copy."
- Enter your patron id when asked. (It is on your Oakton library card ifyou have one or is your Social Security number if you do not have an Oaktoncard.) Your PIN is usually the last four digits of your social security number.
- On the next screen, complete the form, and click "Submit Request."
You will be notified when the book arrives, in about two weeks.
