Welcome to the
Office of Research, Curriculum & Planning.
The mission of
Oakton's Office of Research, Curriculum and Planning is to serve
as a catalyst and engine for gathering, analyzing and using data
and information to improve learning, teaching and institutional
effectiveness.
Our department
has a number of functions at Oakton, broadly divided into these
main areas.
Research
We do research
and evaluations about programs and services, post-Oakton experiences
of students, community and employer demographics and perceptions, feedback
to high schools, and special projects generated by faculty, staff and
administrators. We collaborate with representatives from other colleges
to execute collaborative projects, provide leadership for the program
review process at Oakton, prepare numerous reports for state and other
external agencies, and support Oakton’s assessments of student
learning outcomes.
Curriculum
We work with others
at the College in a variety of curriculum-related activities, including
developing new or revised programs and courses; articulating with colleges
and universities and high schools; and coordinating revisions to marketing
brochures for academic programs as well as the annual College catalog.
The Carl Perkins career and technical education grant and other grants
are administered through the office. The
Office of Grants and Alternative Funding reports to this office
as well.
Planning
We
work with College committees to undertake formal planning activities.
Higher
Learning Commission
Our
department provides support for Oakton’s Higher Learning Commission
