Oakton Community College participates in the
Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI)
which is an agreement among participating
Illinois colleges and universities designed to help Illinois college students
transfer credit as easily as possible. The agreement is effective statewide
for freshman entering college for the first time in the summer of 1998
and thereafter. Oakton's Associate of Arts (A.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.)
degrees are consistent with the IAI agreement that specifies an
Illinois General Education Core Curriculum.
- Students who complete the IAI General Education Core Curriculum, (GECC) and transfer
to participating Illinois institutions will fulfill general education requirements at the
participating schools, although additional courses may be required for graduation. *
- Students who do not complete the IAI General Education Core Curriculum, (GECC) before transferring need to complete the general education requirements of the transfer institution; completed Oakton courses will be evaluated on a course by course basis.
If you would like to track your progress, download and print the worksheet for the
A.A. Degree or A.S. Degree.
(Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Students pursuing an Associate of Science in Engineering, (A.S.E.) should follow the general education curriculum
for that degree. Download and print the A.S.E. Degree worksheet and check your
progress toward completion.
Whether you are pursuing an AA or AS degree or the ASE degree, you are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to
review and discuss these unofficial degree worksheets. Transfer Guides, that provide information on the general
education requirements at Illinois colleges and universities and list Oakton courses which satisfy these requirements,
are available in the Advising and Counseling Center.
*
Some four-year institutions have additional
requirements for graduation and for admission to certain majors. Students
are encouraged to consult with an Academic Advisor in the Advising and Counseling
Center for additional information.
