Special Topics: Philisophies of the Self: East and West
This is a special seminar in which both students and faculty participate. Course examines the nature of the self from several perspectives in the Western philosophical tradition, and the Eastern philosophical tradition, including Advaita Vedanta, and Samkhya schools of thought in Hinduism and the Madhyamika tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. Special focus will be paid to ethical considerations in the construction of the self, and how this impacts notions of peace and justice.
