Project Management Certification Preparation

I.     Course Prefix/Number: MGT 253

       Course Name: Project Management Certification Preparation

       Credits: 2 (2 lecture; 0 lab)

II.    Prerequisite

Recommended: CIS236 or MGT236 or comparable knowledge or consent of instructor.

III.   Course (Catalog) Description

Course offers an intensive review of project management concepts and the application of these concepts to various business scenarios in preparation for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam.  Students cannot receive credit for both CIS 253 and MGT 253.

IV.   Learning Objectives

The student will be able to:
•    Demonstrate knowledge of project management concepts through classroom discussion and by scoring 80% or higher on all practice exams
•    Analyze answers to questions on practice exams by providing rationale for the correct answers
•    Use test taking techniques and strategies when taking project management certification practice exam

V.    Academic Integrity

Students and employees at Oakton Community College are required to demonstrate academic integrity and follow Oakton's Code of Academic Conduct. This code prohibits:

• cheating,
• plagiarism (turning in work not written by you, or lacking proper citation),
• falsification and fabrication (lying or distorting the truth),
• helping others to cheat,
• unauthorized changes on official documents,
• pretending to be someone else or having someone else pretend to be you,
• making or accepting bribes, special favors, or threats, and
• any other behavior that violates academic integrity.

There are serious consequences to violations of the academic integrity policy. Oakton's policies and procedures provide students a fair hearing if a complaint is made against you. If you are found to have violated the policy, the minimum penalty is failure on the assignment and, a disciplinary record will be established and kept on file in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for a period of 3 years.

VII.  Methods of Instruction

Reading, lecture, and discussion and presentation of sample test questions.

Course may be taught as face-to-face, media-based, hybrid or online course.

Students are expected to read the materials in preparation for each lecture/topic.

X.    Methods of Evaluating Student Progress

Each student will complete a practice exam for each major topic listed in the course outline.  Each student will earn a 70% or higher on each exam.  If this score is not earned, the student will retake the exam until such a score is obtained.

XI.   Other Course Information

Successful completion of this course will help prepare the student for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam.  Oakton Community College does not guarantee that you will pass the PMP exam after completing this course. If you do not pass the PMP exam, you can retake this course but note, you will have to pay the tuition costs to retake the course.
