THE COMPLEX AND HUMANE MISS EUDORA WELTY    FEE: $15
“To capture transience was the greatest need I had,” said Eudora Welty, one of the 20th century’s most important writers. She was born and died in Mississippi, yet sent across all borders the transience she captured so glowingly. To celebrate her life is to examine what we have rather than what we want, and who we are rather than who we might want to be. Join Emeritus favorite Jim Rooney and dramatist Georgie Ellis as they bring Welty to life.

WOODIE GUTHERIE:
A PROPHET FOR OUR TIME    FEE: $15
"I come with the dust and I go with the wind," said Woody Guthrie (1912-1967). And while Guthrie wrote songs that helped make sense of the Great Depression, his lyrics could easily be sung today by America's unemployed. Join Bucky Halker for a stirring presentation of Guthrie's working class protest music.

CAPOTE
Truman Capote's Alabama roots are reflected not only in his speech but also in his view of life. Although he abandoned the South for the glitter of New York, his "jet set" status never overpowered his Southern vision. Join Emeritus favorite Tricia Kessie to reflect on Capote's early short story, "A Christmas Memory."
