Williams Selected as Oakton Controller

(July 6, 2016) The Board of Trustees of Oakton Community College approved the selection of Wright “Andy” Williams as the college’s new controller at its June 28 meeting. Williams will begin August 1.

Williams joins Oakton from the College of Lake County, where he serves in a similar capacity, leading and supervising the budgeting, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashier’s office, food service, bookstore and campus services departments.

He was selected from a candidate pool of 55 internal and external applicants. The search committee conducted eight on-campus interviews and selected three finalists to bring to campus for interviews with a number of employee groups, including President’s Council; college administrators, faculty and staff; accounting and budget staff and supervisors; President Joianne Smith; and consultant David Agazzi, who is assisting Oakton with the day-to-day administration of the Business and Finance Department.

“We are pleased to be able to hire someone with such expertise and experience as Andy has,” Smith said. “With the state’s fiscal situation, it’s more important than ever for the college to have sound financial management practices in place and the ability to find creative solutions to help us deliver upon our mission of providing students a world-class education right here in our community.”

Prior to his employment with the College of Lake County, Williams served Oak Park Township, the City of Chicago, the Government Finance Officers Association and the Boy Scouts of America in various leadership capacities in the areas of business, budget and policy.
