Check Out Oakton’s Health Career Programs at November Info Sessions

(Oct. 25, 2018) Oakton Community College will host seven free health career information sessions at its Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, during the month of November.

“I see the extreme value of this face-to-face encounter with prospective students,” says Maribel Alimboyoguen, Oakton assistant dean for health careers. “A student should never have to feel like they are alone in navigating their future. Each information session is tailored to highlight the specific program’s offerings, labor market data and curriculum, but more importantly allows for students to engage with health career faculty and advisors.”

According to the United States Department of Labor, health careers are among the fastest growing fields with more than 2.1 million new jobs predicted to be added to these occupations by 2024. A July 2018 report by the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership corroborates this data, listing health care careers among those most in demand. The report specifically lists nurses and nurse practitioners; nursing assistants, including CNA, LPN, PCT and medical assistants; medical records and health information technicians; physical therapists and emergency medical technicians (EMT) as among the hottest jobs.

Oakton offers credentials in nursing, basic nurse assistant training, medical laboratory technology, health information technology, phlebotomy and medical assistant. Information sessions include the following dates and times:
