Medical Coding and Billing Certificate

First-come, first-served application process.

Minimum Requirements

  • Placement into English 090/097/098 and MAT 070. Placement tests are available at Oakton’s Testing Center.

Associate of Applied Science Degree

Minimum Requirements (A.A.S.)

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Development (GED) certification.
  • HIT 104 with a grade of C or better within the last two years.
  • HIT 105 with a grade of C or better within the last two years.
  • Completion of BIO 114 with a minimum grade of C within the last five years.
  • MAT 085 or MAT 095 (formerly MAT 110) with a minimum grade of C or placement into MAT 085 or MAT 095.
  • College level reading and entry level competency for EGL 101 as demonstrated by coursework or assessment. If applicants do not have EGL 101 or equivalent, completion of Oakton English assessment tests are required.

Other Requirements (A.A.S.)

  • Proof of health insurance and current complete physical.
  • Meet essential skills which include physical, communicative/cognitive, emotional/psychological criteria.
  • Interview with and consent of HIT Faculty.

 

Cancer Registry Management

Minimum Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Foreign high school graduates or students with foreign college credits need to send English translated copies of their transcripts to Educational Perspectives, www.edperspective.org/oakton. Students with foreign college credit should request a catalog match.
  • Minimum education of an associate’s degree in any field or the equivalent (60 college-level credits).
  • Completion of HIT 104 with a minimum grade of C.
  • Completion with a minimum grade of C of one of the following options:
    • One semester course in Human Anatomy and one semester course in Human Physiology; or
    • Combined two-semester course in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology or BIO 114 and HIT 124.
  • Completion of HIT 194 with a minimum grade of C.
  • Entry level competency for EGL 101 as demonstrated by coursework or assessment.

  • Interview with and consent of HIT Faculty.
  • Proof of health insurance and current complete physical.
  • Clear criminal background check and drug screen.
