Health and Wellness

At Oakton, we want every student to be able to succeed in achieving their goals. Maintaining physical and mental wellness can be a key element in finding academic success. To ensure that you are able to stay in good health and keep focused on your classes and studies, we offer health services, fitness programs and counseling on both the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses.

Here's a look at what we offer for your health and wellness:

  • Health Services
Some medical services are available to students for free or at low cost at the Wellness Centers located on each campus. These services include blood pressure screenings, pregnancy tests and birth control distribution, the treatment of minor injuries and illnesses and more. With a focus on health education and disease prevention, you'll have access to resources that help you make informed decisions.
  • The Fitness Center
Whether you are getting in shape or taking a for-credit physical fitness course, you'll have access to a workout space on the Des Plaines campus filled with up-to-date equipment, warm-up areas and experienced staff. Membership costs are low for Oakton students and employees.
  • Counseling Services
College—and life—can be stressful. We want to help you attend to your mental health and address challenging and debilitating issues such as relationship concerns, loneliness, trauma or abuse. We have trained staff available at both the Skokie and Des Plaines campuses five days a week to assist you.
  • Student Care Coordinator
Care Coordination provides direct support, resources, and advocacy for students experiencing life events that are impacting their well-being, and interrupting their academic success and persistence.
  • Lactation Rooms
If you or a guest recently had a child and need a safe and private place for lactation, rooms are available on both campuses by reservation for 30-minute blocks of time.

To reserve Room 2556 on the Des Plaines campus for lactation, contact the Office of Student Affairs at 847.635.1739 during business hours. Employees can contact Human Resources at 847.635.1675 during business hours to reserve either space. Public Safety should be called after hours at 847.635.1880.

On the Skokie campus, rooms B209 and B217 are used for lactation. Students, employees and guests can reserve a room by contacting the Division of Business and Career Technologies office at 847.635.1910.
  • Meditation / Prayer Rooms
Sometimes, having a quiet and private place to center yourself or pray can greatly improve your mental health. For that reason, we offer meditation and prayer spaces in Room 2148 on the Des Plaines campus and Room A190 on the Skokie campus.

On the Des Plaines campus, reservations can be made by contacting the Office of Student Affairs at 847.635.1739 during business hours.
