Management and Supervision

Oakton's Management and Supervision Program provides the skills and experiences you need to be a more effective leader. Courses include critical information on policy interpretation, goal setting, decision making, communications and motivation. You’ll apply your coursework to real-world problems and create managerial solutions that meet organizational objectives. Whether you are an experienced manager or just beginning your career, the Management and Supervision Program is a building block of success. 

Students wishing to transfer to a four-year program can complete our associate degree in management and supervision. Oakton will work with you to ensure your success.

Degrees and Certificates

Our program for an associate degree in management and supervision is composed of 61 semester hours, including general education. Refer to the IAI General Education Courses list for guidance in selecting general courses. Students are required to fulfill the major requirements listed below in addition to the general requirements.

This certificate develops leadership skills necessary in upper levels of management. Encompasses courses in Leadership, Strategic Management, Quality Management, Project Management and Change Management.

With our Organization Management Certificate, you will learn how to perform a SWOT analysis and develop a strategic plan. You will also learn to compare and contrast theories of leadership and leverage the decision making process to motivate individuals and organizations.

The Human Resource Specialist Certificate prepares students to enter into the human resource management realm of organizations. The program includes coursework in talent acquisition, learning and development, effective communication, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and human resources law.

Job Outlook

Employment in management occupations is projected to grow 9 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all occupations, and will result in about 906,800 new jobs. Employment growth is expected to be driven by the formation of new organizations and expansion of existing ones, which should require more workers to manage these operations. 

The median annual wage for management occupations was $109,760 in May 2020, which was the highest wage of all the major occupational groups.
