Author Visits Oakton to Discuss Palestinian-Israeli Relations

(September 16, 2015) Chicago writer Ali Abunimah will visit Oakton Community College, 1600 East Golf Road, Des Plaines (Room 1625), from 12:30 – 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1 to discuss the current state of affairs in the Middle East.

Abunimah’s lecture will focus on his latest book The Battle for Justice in Palestine (Haymarket Books), which analyzes the present relationship between Israel and Palestine from different angles.

“Ali is a Palestinian journalist and activist, who has been a staunch advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people for over two decades,” says Oakton Professor of Social Science and History Richard Stacewicz. “Also, Ali offers a reasoned critique of the failed peace process and an important contribution to solving the ongoing crisis in the region.”

A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Chicago, Abunimah is a frequent speaker and commentator on the Middle East, contributing regularly to the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. He also is the co-founder of Electronic Intifada, a not-for-profit, independent online publication about Israeli-Palestinian affairs.

Abunimah’s talk is co-sponsored by various student organizations and academic units, including Students for Social Justice; Peace and Social Justice Studies; Global Studies; Honors; Humanities and Philosophy; and the Diversity Council.
