The Office of Advising, Transitions, and Student Success is available to answer general questions about academic advising. Email and voicemail are checked throughout the day and messages will be responded to within 24 business hours. Please be sure to include your name and Oakton ID Number (B#) in any communications.
Academic advisors are meeting with students virtually during the fall 2020 semester. Thirty-minute appointments will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some appointments may be made outside of these hours based on advisor availability.

Send specific questions (including your Oakton B#) to your academic advisor and allow 1-2 business days for a response.

For a video appointment, join the Google Meet appointment via video. You will need a computer with video and audio capabilities.

For a phone appointment, join the Google Meet appointment via audio only. If you need to contact your advisor by phone, you can find contact information in the Oakton directory.
Schedule your virtual appointment
If you are a new student, check your Student Profile within myOakton to ensure you have completed all admission steps, such as placement testing and online orientation. If all steps are complete, fill out the scheduling request form to meet your Oakton advisor to plan and register for your first semester.
If you are currently enrolled or attended previously, schedule your virtual appointment by following these steps:
- Log into myOakton, and on the home page, select 'Students First'
- Click 'Get Advising' and select 'Academic Advisor' as the service category
- Select the reason for your virtual appointment as 'Virtual Advising'
- Select the appointment location: "Virtual"
- Find and select the Advisor for the appointment
Not sure who your advisor is? In myOakton, select 'Student Profile', and scroll down your student profile until you see 'Advisor.'
- Select an appointment date/time
- Optional: Add comments for your advisor, including your preferred contact number as an alternative contact
- Click 'Confirm Appointment'
In addition to your confirmation email, you will receive a follow-up email from your advisor. Before a virtual appointment, you will receive a Google Calendar invitation with both video and voice (only) options to connect to the appointment.
Note: If you are in the TRIO program, are a student-athlete, or you are in a health career or nursing program, email your program-specific advisor to schedule an appointment.

Remote Tutoring Services
The Learning Center is here to support you from wherever you are! Many of our tutoring services are now available remotely. Remote tutoring is now available via Zoom App for accounting, anatomy & physiology, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics courses offered at the college.

The Zoom app will launch automatically to join the meeting.

Placement - Reading, Writing, and Math
Meeting placement requirements at Oakton can be completed in multiple ways. For more information see Placement at Oakton. If you are not sure you need to take a placement test, log into the new student portal to view your admission checklist. You can also consult with the Enrollment Center about your placement options at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The ALEKS math placement test can be completed remotely while the College is closed. Send an email with your contact information to email@example.com. Staff will follow up with detailed information about taking the test online. If you have questions about your math placement or prerequisites go to the Math Placement Coordinator page.
Reading and Writing Placement
The ACCUPLACER® Reading Placement Test and the Writing Skills Assessment Test (WSAT) can also be completed remotely. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to indicate the test you want to take. The Testing Center will follow up with you.

Enrollment Services assists students with general questions about processes related to Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, and Records including prerequisites, class overrides, holds, online registration, payment options, FAFSA process and verification, proof of residency, student record changes, application issues, and steps for new student enrollment/orientation.
Staff will be available to answer questions during the hours of remote operations. Questions received outside of operation hours will generally be addressed within one business days.

Registration is now open. All summer classes listed for registration will be taught online. Students can register for summer via the myOakton student portal. Many registration holds have been lifted to allow students to register online. Some classes that are typically offered, will not be offered this summer because they require an on-campus lab component and/or are not formatted to be taught online. A list of courses that will NOT be offered can be found at www.oakton.edu/coronavirus in the ‘Credit Classes’ section. Check back often as courses are being added to the summer schedule as they are developed.

Due to the likelihood that social distancing will be required for an extended period of time, Oakton is planning to shift a large number of our traditional courses into an online format during the fall 2020 semester. To improve the teaching and learning experience, students will connect with instructors and peers virtually during regularly scheduled class times for most courses. This differs from the spring and summer semesters, during which students were able to access instruction at the time of their choosing. We plan to hold lab-based components of courses on our campuses — while practicing social distancing and limiting the number of people in classrooms. More information will be shared as it becomes available. If the situation regarding COVID-19 improves, we will explore options to increase the number of courses available on our campuses.
Fall registration planning tips
- Schedule a virtual appointment with your academic advisor. See the advising section of this page.
- Clear any holds on your account (check hold status in the right corner of your myOakton Student Profile). Many holds have been removed to allow online registration.
- If a course has a prerequisite, submit a Prerequisite Override Request.
- Plan your fall schedule and register. In your myOakton Student Profile, select "Registration" and then "Plan Ahead".
- Find out how many courses you have left to complete your degree or certificate by viewing your uAchieve® report on your myOakton home page.

The Cashier is available to answer questions regarding bills, payments, and payment plans. They are available Monday - Thursday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 847.635.1639 or email@example.com.
- Students who are on a monthly payment plan with installments scheduled on April 5, 2020 and May 5, 2020 have the option of postponing remaining payments to May 5, 2020 and June 5, 2020.
- Students who are on a Financial Aid EZ pay plan with installments scheduled for April 10, 2020 and May 10, 2020 have the option of postponing remaining payments to May 10, 2020 and June 10, 2020.
- Students with extenuating financial circumstances may contact the Cashier’s office at firstname.lastname@example.org for additional payment options and consideration.
Spring Course Withdrawal: The last day to withdraw from 15-week and 16-week courses has been extended to April 13. Students who are unable to complete a course due to the change in instructional format or changes in their personal situation, can withdraw from courses by this date and receive a 100% refund. Students must officially withdraw from courses via the myOakton student portal.
- NEW: To withdraw from a spring 2020 class due to COVID-19 that is not a 16-week, 15-week, 12-week, or second 8-week course needs to complete a simple and short administrative withdrawal form. Please contact the Enrollment Services team at 847.635.1700 or email@example.com for a copy of this form or assistance with the process.
- To withdraw from a course, choose the 100% refund drop option from the student registration screen in the myOakton portal.
- Students who receive financial aid are strongly encouraged to contact their financial aid advisor to learn how this decision may impact their spring 2020 financial aid prior to dropping their class(es). Refunds will be processed by the Cashier's office after the Financial Aid Office has made any needed financial aid adjustments to the student’s account.
- Students should allow two to three weeks for refunds to be processed. For questions, contact the Cashier's Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Oakton transcripts may be requested at Transcripts Plus. There is an option to have an electronic academic transcript securely emailed to another college, university, or personal email address. Electronic academic transcripts are recommended at this time.
Graduation/Degree Conferral: The Registrar Services department will continue to evaluate students’ petitions to graduate in order to confer degrees and certificates after the spring semester concludes. The date to pick up diplomas will be announced after the College reopens.

The Wellness Center, including Counseling, Health and Student Care is open remotely Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Counseling Services is staffed by licensed mental health professionals and offers time-limited, general counseling services to registered Oakton students.
Specific services include referrals to community mental health resources, individual tele-counseling, counselor on call response, and remote support groups.
If you were receiving services prior to spring break, please email your counselor directly with questions or requests for services.
Health Services is staffed by licensed health professionals and offers wellness and health services to registered Oakton students. While the campus is closed or is working remotely, in-person services are limited.
Nurses are available to answer questions regarding community health referrals, COVID-19, health and wellness information, and communications for students restricted by the virus or self-quarantine.
Student Care aids students in accessing campus and community resources along with routine and crisis support. Remote student meetings are available by appointment.

The Access and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is staffed by disability professionals and coordinates classroom accommodations, students’ rights and responsibilities regarding disability matters and meeting diverse learning styles and needs.

Cancellation/Delay of 2020 Commencement Ceremony
The College has canceled the public graduation ceremony scheduled for Monday, May 18. Recognizing the importance of this occasion to our graduates and their families, Oakton is considering alternative options to give the c\College’s graduates the opportunity to mark this milestone. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

The Student Success Fund (SSF) assists Oakton students who encounter an unforeseen emergency or catastrophic event that would otherwise prevent them from earning a degree or certificate at Oakton. Each applicant is asked to describe, in detail, the nature of the emergency and state how SSF funds would assist in alleviating the circumstances.

- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework completed at Oakton or be a new student to Oakton.
- Be registered in at least six credit hours for the current semester.
