Oakton College Announces December Performing Arts Program

OMG Improv invites the audience to join the fun by suggesting unique situations that the players will explore.
Des Plaines (Nov. 27, 2023) - Cozy up this December and get in the spirit of winter holidays by supporting local performers at Oakton College. From music performances that will melt your heart to improv that will make you laugh out loud, the performing arts program at Oakton is the reason to get together with your family and friends during this holiday season.

String Ensemble
The Oakton String Ensemble, directed by Daniel Golden, presents Winter Serenades, a music concert to warm the heart. The Ensemble will play excerpts of the exquisite string serenades of Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and Elgar, as well as Mozart's “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.” The program will also feature music by Scott Joplin and holiday music from Gloria Estafan and others.

Dec. 4, 8 p.m., $8 general admission, $6 students and seniors

Speaker Showcase
Don't miss some of Oakton's top speech students and speech team members as they present the finest from the fall semester's public speaking classes. Join Director Bob Gynn as he introduces student speakers who will enlighten audience members on topics that span the spectrum from educational to inspirational to comical.

Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m., free admission

Guitar Ensemble
Come join the Oakton Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Tom Clippert, for a musical journey celebrating the vast world of possibilities on the guitar. You will hear cornerstones of the classical repertoire alongside original compositions and arrangements from members of the Ensemble. Jazz and Rock essentials, along with sounds from around the world will round out the sounds of your evening.

Choral-Vocal Concert
Join the Oakton Choir, under the direction of Mallory Harding, for Celebrations of the Season, a concert celebrating the beauty of winter and the holidays. Celebrations of the Season will feature the world premiere of a piece written for the Oakton Choir by composer and Oakton student Jim Kendros, in addition to new and old choral favorites.

Dec. 7, 8 p.m., $8 general admission, $6 students and seniors

Jazz Invasion
Experience the swinging and toe-tapping sounds of the Oakton College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mark Olen. The concert repertoire will feature a variety of styles and composers that are sure to delight one and all. Come and enjoy America's own national treasure-Jazz!

OMG Improv
Get ready to split your sides with laughter as Oakton's student improvisation group takes the stage. Frequent performers at popular Chicago comedy venues, OMG Improv invites the audience to join the fun by suggesting the unique situations that the players will explore. Come out to enjoy some of the funnies and follies of the holiday season.
