Sex Offender Registration

The federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, enacted on October 28, 2000, requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information provided by a State concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained. It also requires sex offenders already required to register in a State to provide notice, as required under State law, of each institution of higher education in that State at which the person is employed, carries on a vocation, volunteers services or is a student.

Oakton is committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff members. In accordance with the federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2002, it is Oakton’s practice to administratively track convicted sex offenders who are enrolled in classes or employed at the college, and to communicate as necessary and appropriate to the Oakton community. In addition, it may be necessary to place certain restrictions on these individuals in terms of their use of College facilities and resources. In accordance with the Act, sex offenders who must register under state law are required to provide notice of enrollment or employment at any institution of higher education in the jurisdiction where the offender resides. This data for Oakton College District 535 is compiled by the Illinois State Police. To learn the identity of registered sex offenders on or near either campus, visit www.isp.state.il.us/sor/sor.cfm.
