Student Government

The Student Government Association (SGA) provides for and represents the academic and social interests of the student body while enhancing the college experience for all students. Working with the other student organizations and campus offices, the SGA provides opportunities for students to become actively involved in campus life. The SGA comprises five committees: the Elections; Student Life; Student Information; Budget; and Clubs and Organizations.

The SGA recognizes student clubs and organizations, provides for the annual distribution and control of $500,000 in student activities fees and provides extracurricular learning experiences.

Student Judicial Board

The SGA also appoints the Student Judicial Board (SJB). The SJB acts as the Parking Appeals Board, which meets monthly. They also monitor SGA elections and enforce the policies of the SGA.

SGA Requirements

Each year, students like you make the choice to rise to leadership in the SGA. In deciding to serve your fellow students in the SGA, you also commit to upholding a standard of personal and academic excellence to serve as an example to your peers and the Oakton community.

Tools For Growth

Headshot of student Luis Toro

“A community college is so small compared to a big university—there’s more of a sense that you can leave a mark here and do more. People know you in a substantial way. That’s a key aspect of going to college: that sense of community that makes you actually feel that you can succeed."
