Columbia University to Host First-Ever Information Session at Oakton, Feb. 11

Des Plaines, Ill. (Feb. 2, 2026)— Ivy League excellence is coming to Oakton College. For the first time, Columbia University — one of the world’s most prestigious institutions — will visit the Des Plaines campus to host an information session for prospective students. 

Current and future Oakton students are invited to attend the session on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Student Center at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Rd. The visit offers students a rare opportunity to connect directly with representatives from a globally renowned Ivy League university.

Located in New York City, Columbia University is internationally recognized for its academic excellence, groundbreaking research and global impact. During the session, attendees will learn more about Columbia University School of General Studies and transfer opportunities across all four of Columbia’s undergraduate colleges.

The information session will cover topics including academics, the application process, financial planning, student life and more. Representatives will also share guidance on preparing a strong application and insights into the student experience, both inside and outside the classroom.
