Off Campus Testing

Students taking online courses at Oakton College but residing outside the college district, city, and/or state can take their proctored exams in the testing center of a local college or university.

Off-campus testing is available for students who cannot attend Oakton for free in-person testing. Costs associated with that are the students’ responsibility. For first-timers, please ensure you are seeking this at least one week in advance.

Guidelines for Taking Course Exams Off-Campus

  • Research approved locations such as local libraries and colleges, OR review the NCTA resource guide for other locations.
  • Confirm with the proctoring site of interest that you can test there.
    • Please have our information handy to provide to them. Let them know the Oakton Testing Center will send them more information.
  • Notify the Oakton Testing Center by submitting an Exam Registration form.
    • This helps the Testing Center support you by passing along the exam information and being the main point of contact for any issues while taking the exam.
  • Double-check the day before your exam that the proctoring site has received your exam information.
  • Attend your exam appointment.

Tips For Your Success

  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Don’t forget to bring a state photo ID with you for an exam.
  • Double-check with the instructor before the test date to know what materials are allowed during your testing. The materials allowed are based on the instructions the instructor provides.
  • You are responsible for the testing fees as applicable per the individual location.

Need to Reschedule?

  1. Reach out to the instructor to ensure the extension is okay.
  2. Reschedule your date for the exam with the proctoring site.
  3. Ensure Oakton Testing Center is also aware of the new date.
