FAQ: Spring 2022 Free Credit Class Incentives

New students: First Class Free!

To make use of this offer, new students at Oakton (defined as someone who has never enrolled in and completed credit coursework at any time in the past at Oakton) must be enrolled by April 14, 2022 at 11:59 pm central and remain in the class for the duration of the semester This offer provides up to three credit hours at the in-district tuition rate for free—a maximum value of $408.75. For students utilizing the senior-citizen discount, the maximum value is $204.36. The offer applies to tuition only; students are responsible for textbooks and any other fees. The three credit hours must apply to regular credit courses only (including developmental education). Dual credit students and students using an Oakton employee waiver are not eligible. Eligible students who have already paid their tuition will receive a credit on their Oakton student account.

Continuing students: 3 credits free when enrolled in 9 or more credit hours!

To make use of this offer, the student must be enrolled in 9 or more credit hours by April 14, 2022 at 11:59 pm central and must remain registered in the class for the entire semester. This offer provides three credit hours at the in-district tuition rate for free to eligible students---a maximum value of $408.75. Who is defined as a new student?

A new student is defined as someone who has never enrolled in and completed credit coursework at any time in the past at Oakton.

Can I receive both incentives?

No, this tuition incentive cannot be combined. (maximum award is 3 credits or $408.75/$204.36)

Do I need to apply for this funding?

No, all students who are eligible will have the value of the eligible three credit hours applied to their accounts.

Is there a deadline to enroll or will this be throughout the spring term (late start classes)?

To be eligible, students need to be enrolled by 11:59 p.m. Central on April 14, 2022.

How long do I have to stay enrolled in the free three credit hours?

To be eligible, students need to remain enrolled for the entire semester. Classes that are dropped will be refunded according to the published drop deadlines in the concise student schedule.

Will the tuition be credited at the in-district or out-of-district rate?

Three credit hours will be credited at the in-district rate (total value equivalent to $408.75; or $204.36 for students receiving the senior citizen tuition rate).

Will this incentive continue for the summer and fall 2022 term?

This incentive is currently only for the spring 2022 term.

What if I am receiving financial aid that already pays for my tuition?

Each financial aid student will be reviewed and their financial aid adjusted based on eligibility and fall enrollment at Oakton taking into consideration the three free credit hours of tuition. For more specific information, contact financialaid@oakton.edu.

Do I qualify if I have an outstanding balance from the previous semester?

Yes.

Can the money be applied to my past balance?

The funding is only for the spring 2022 semester and cannot be used toward your past balance.

What if I drop a class? What if I am dropped from a class by the College (for failed prereq, canceled class, non-attendance, etc.)?

You must be enrolled by 11:59 pm Central on April 14, 2022 to be eligible for this offer.

When will I see the credit applied to my account?

After April 14, 2022.

I’m close to graduation and do not need to take more classes. Can I have the money applied to a previous semester?

No, unfortunately this offer is only for students enrolled in spring 2022 coursework.

Does this credit apply to all classes? What if the class is not included in my program of study?

This offer applies to all credit coursework. We encourage students to connect with their academic advisor to ensure all coursework applies towards their program of study.

What happens if I fail the class? Do I have to repay the money?

Students would not need to repay funds received from this incentive program for a failed class.

Do I still have to pay my bill?

Yes. Keeping your student account in good standing will allow you to register for future semesters as well as have easy access to your official Oakton transcript after graduation. Students must sign up for a payment plan or pay in full upon registration while they wait for their account to be credited. Visit myOakton/Bill and Payment/Payment Plan.
