Oakton Board of Trustees to Serve as Community Ambassadors

(Aug. 21, 2019) Members of the Oakton Community College Board of Trustees will be doing community outreach serving as ambassadors and one of their first stops is at the Evanston CommUNITY Picnic from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The free event is scheduled at Ingraham Park, located behind the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

Trustees will be hosting a table at the event, providing information and answering questions about the college, which offers a wealth of educational options with over 2,500 course offerings each term.

Vice Chair Martha Burns, an Evanston resident, plans on attending.

“Oakton serves vibrant and diverse communities and having trustees serve as ambassadors brings the college to the people in our district,” says President Joi Smith. “With the college celebrating its year-long 50th anniversary, this is a great opportunity to strengthen our connections.”

Oakton trustees also include Chair Benjamin Salzberg, Secretary Paul Kotowski, Gail Bush, William Stafford, Marie Lynn Toussaint and Wendy Yanow. Adisa Ozegovic serves as student trustee.

Oakton’s commitment to the community is outlined in its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan which include developing stronger connections with community leaders, community-based organizations and business and industry partners.

Trustees will also serve as ambassadors at the Downtown Evanston Outdoor Farmers’ Market Saturday, Sept. 7.
