Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Credit

Oakton College's Fire Science Department awards credit for college-level learning accomplished while working as an EMT.

Credit for National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Certification

In efforts to recognize quality training and to encourage continued education pursuits, the Fire Science Department is offering credit (8 credit hours) for FIR220 - Emergency Medical Technician course upon receiving documented evidence of:

  • A current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician licensure and;
  • A score of 80% in the training program where the students prepared for the exam and;
  • Enrollment in the AAS program in Fire Science Technology (0180) or the Fire Science Technology
    Certificate (0181).

EMT Training

Students must submit a transcript from their training center and show evidence of achieving 80% in the
final examination in order to receive the credit. Scores below 80% are not eligible for credit via prior
learning assessment. Please note that acceptance of this credit will not result in an Emergency Medical
Technician Certificate; the awarding of the credit will be applied toward either a Fire Science Technology Certificate or the AAS Fire Science Technology Program.
