Standardized Testing 

Oakton awards college-level credit for students who take standardized tests. 

How to get credit posted on your transcript for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support (DANTES) tests:

  1. Download, print and complete the Student Application for Prior Learning Assessment Credit for Standardized Tests (PDF) (178 KB).
  2. Request that the score reports are sent to the Registrar's Office.
  3. You will be notified when the credit is posted.

Advanced Placement Credit (AP)

AP exams are completed while still enrolled in high school. Oakton awards credit for Advanced Placement Exams with a score of 3 or higher. Each of these courses fulfills degree requirements at Oakton in the form of general education coursework or elective credit.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Examinations

IB exams are completed while still enrolled in high school.
Oakton awards credit for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) for tests that have a score of 4 or higher. Each of these courses fulfills degree requirements at Oakton in the form of general education coursework or elective credit. An official IB transcript is required and may be requested from the International Baccalaureate Organization (Fees apply).

Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support (DANTES)

DANTES exams are administered by the military.
Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) Credit for successful performance on a DANTES-Funded DSST prior learning exam may be awarded for courses evaluated as equivalent to Oakton courses. An official transcript may be requested online. Registrar Services will evaluate the transcript for credit.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CLEP tests are administered once you are enrolled in college.
Credit for successful performance on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) general exam are awarded as elective credit in that subject area. Oakton awards credit at the ACE recommended score of 50 or higher. See the CLEP test credit list to understand how Oakton awards CLEP credit. Each course fulfills degree requirements at Oakton in the form of general education coursework or elective credit.

How to get CLEP credit posted to your record at Oakton

After you pass the test:

  1. Download, print and complete the Student Application for Prior Learning Assessment Credit for Standardized Tests (PDF) (178 KB).
  2. Have the College Board send your test results to the Oakton Registrar’s Office.
